According to the source, that certification has softened lately, so that non-EU slab can be rerolled into Euro 1 plate. He says he is not sure if this is attributable to a loophole in the EU regulation, “but I have noticed that Italian demand for EU-origin plate has decreased,” he tells Kallanish.

He sees the price per tonne of Italian S355 plate for northwestern European customers around �700/tonne ($768) delivered, “but they are always willing to negotiate.” Northwestern integrated mills are trying to push offer prices to �770-780/t, but deals of �30-50/t below that remain likely.
